A nice, 1839 edition of the five volume commentary, "Benson's Commentary The Holy Bible containing the Old and New Testaments" by Rev. Joseph Benson. An excellent early study Bible by Joseph Benson (1748 - 1821) who was a prominent Methodist preacher in England who studied under John Wesley after joining the Methodist movement at sixteen. In 1766 Mr. Wesley appointed him to be the master of Classics at the Kingswood School. He applied himself to the study of philosophy and theology. Working closely with John Wesley he would preach to crowds of up to twenty thousand and in 1811 he began this multi-volume commentary on the entire Bible. Rev. Benson went to glory in 1821 and this edition of his commentary was published 18 years after his passing as well as being published only 48 years after John Wesley went to Heaven. Condition Notes: grades good as a vintage 1839 edition with heavy shelf & use wear, age wear, foxing, light staining on pages ends. still very readable, pages still supple and clean though binding is weak in spots. An extremely nice full set of this commentary.
