Description
From the Introduction by Thomas Ray:
Several years ago I read a breif biographical sketch of Abraham Marshall that described his extensive and successful ministry. I was especially impressed by the reception and phenomenal blessing which attended his labors in 1786 while on a preaching tour in New England. Learning that his son Jabez in 1824 had edited and published his father's Memoirs, I immediately sought to obtain a copy.
After several unsuccessful attempts, Mercer University of Georgia provided me with a photocopy. Even before I had finished reading Marshall's Memoirs, I knew that this was a book that needed to be republished and made available to a generation that for the most part has never heard of this remarkable evangelist, church-planter, and pastor.
With the encouragment of Gary Long of Particular Baptist Press, I had Marshall's Memoirs retyped, and in an effort to lend additional value to the Memoirs, have added brief biographies of Abraham Marshall and his father, Daniel Marshall. I believe it is impossible to understand Abraham Marshall without knowing something about the life and ministry of his illustrious father.
