A nice, vintage, 1911 hardcover, 15 volume set of "John L. Stoddard's Lectures" by John L. Stoddard. John Lawson Stoddard was an author and photographer, who travelled the world seeing most of the great cities and sites of Europe, the Middle East, China, Japan, India, Canada and also the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and California. Using these travels he developed a lecture with an early "slide show" and filled lecture halls and theatres. This set is filled with hundreds of vintage photos that show London, Rome, Jerusalem, Japan and Yellowstone in a way you cannot see them today, before all the growth of the last nearly 150 years. There are many, many photos of China and Russia prior to Communism. Mr. Stoddard may have been the pioneer in the Travelogue Industry. Condition Notes: This set grades good overall with strong binding and clean pages on all 15 volumes. this is the 1911 edition, pictures are available of the product showing the various states of the spines, front & back covers. This is an excellent set with hundreds of late 1870's vintage BW photographs of some of the most famous places in the world. really a must for any library. priced at a steal for what you get for the money.
