This book parts of which were written in 1865, some 1883, some later but all brought together in this 1914 volume which gives first hand accounts of the battles and events of the war in original source material with only object by the author is to leave an accurate record of his recollections behind. A great source of needed original source material about the Battle of Bull Run, The Shenendoah Valley Campaign, The Battles around Richmond, The Wilderness, Spotsyvania Courthouse, The retreat from Richmond and more, lastly including his time at Johnson's Island Prison. 423 pages.
Condition: Extensive shelf, cover and age wear, writing on title page. binding wear at front cover and flyleaves, title page are loose. over binding is ok outside of cover and pages are clean with an absence of foxing.
